What Is Boy Kavalier’s Plan With Joe’s Lung in Alien: Earth?

Alien: Earth Episode 3 was a shocking entry into the new series, and it featured a story where Boy Kavalier had Kirsh do something eerie with Joe’s lungs, which also involved an alien species. So, what is Boy Kavalier’s motive behind his experiment? Here is a breakdown.

Boy Kavalier’s plan for Joe’s Lung in Alien: Earth Episode 3 explained

Alien: Earth Episode 3 revealed that Boy Kavalier and Kirsh are experimenting with the newly acquired Weyland-Yutani alien specimens. They are also experimenting with Joe’s surgically removed lung. Joe had to have one of his lungs removed surgically and replaced with a new one after he was viciously attacked by a Xenomorph at the crash site. Boy Kavalier and Kirsh were seemingly conducting experiments with Joe’s lung at the Prodigy lab. They did this by having the alien species swim into Joe’s removed lung.

As they put the alien in the lung, it was clear that Kavalier wanted to see if an alien lifeform would gestate inside of it. As Wendy is obsessed with Joe, Boy Kavalier could be using this experiment for some personal gains and scientific advancements. Of course, Prodigy always aims to push boundaries of research, and infecting Joe’s lung with the alien parasite is among those.

However, Boy Kavalier will likely be careful not to hurt Wendy, at least intentionally, given that Wendy is his favorite of the Lost Boys. Prodigy also focuses quite obsessively on extending human life, which could be another ultimate goal behind this experiment.

The ending leaves the story ambiguous and open-ended, but it hints that a Xenomorph will grow in Joe’s lung. This could lead to unintended consequences when the Xenomorph emerges.

The upcoming episode of Alien: Earth will shed more light on this. Alien: Earth Episode 3 is now streaming on Hulu.
