Weapons Filming Locations: Where Is It Set & Where Was It Filmed?

Curious about the filming locations for Weapons that brought the eerie, small-town atmosphere of the new American mystery horror film to life? While the storyline unfolds in the fictional town of Maybrook, Pennsylvania, the real filming sites tell a different, and equally fascinating, story.

So, here are all the details about the filming location of the horror movie Weapons.

Where does the Weapons movie take place?

The weapons movie is set in Maybrook, Pennsylvania. It is a fictional small town carefully designed to immerse audiences in its unsettling mystery. However, despite the storyline’s Pennsylvania backdrop, the actual filming locations for the movie Weapons were far from the Northeast.

Director Zach Cregger envisioned a small New Eastern town and tasked production designer Tom Hammock with bringing it to life. Hammock drew inspiration from communities surrounding Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, ensuring the set looked convincingly authentic.

Where was the Weapons movie filmed?

The filming locations for Weapons centered around Atlanta, Georgia.

Principal photography began in May 2024 and wrapped by July. Filming in Georgia’s sweltering summer heat required the crew to install extensive tubing for air-conditioning, especially on uncooled soundstages.

Brockett Elementary School in Tucker, Georgia

One of the standout locations was Brockett Elementary School in Tucker, Georgia, around 15 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. For the film, it became Maybrook Elementary School. Interestingly, a real Maybrook Elementary School once existed in New York, adding another layer of authenticity to the fictional setting.

Covington, Georgia

The gas station scene, featuring a bloodied Benedict Wong pinning down Julia Garner, was shot at a BP station in Covington, Georgia. The crew filmed for three days, using both the pumps and the adjacent To Go convenience store.

Other weapons filming locations included Decatur, East Point, Griffin, Jonesboro, and Stone Mountain, each contributing to the movie’s chilling ambiance.

Cregger initially wanted to shoot the movie in Pennsylvania. However, he later discovered that films like Prisoners, which he admired for their setting, were actually filmed in Atlanta. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he stated, “I kept getting pissed when we were scouting around Atlanta. I was like, ‘I just wish we could shoot in Pennsylvania where they shot Prisoners.‘ And then I found out, no, they shot ‘Prisoners‘ in Atlanta. So we didn’t stop until we found exactly what we sought. It was like, if it works for them, it’ll work for us.”
