Why Does Galactus Want Franklin Richards? Connection in Fantastic Four Explained

Viewers want to know why Galactus wants Sue Storm and Reed Richards’ baby, Franklin, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The superhero movie features Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and the Thing battling the devouring force, Galactus, to rescue the Earth. With the movie having been released today, fans are curious to learn more about Galactus’ motives regarding the baby. So, here are the details.

How is Galactus connected to Franklin Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps?

Initially, the MCU’s first family visits Galactus to meet on his ship. At the time, Galactus is quick to sense the extraordinary powers that the baby in Sue Storm’s womb holds. Therefore, he makes a shocking deal, which doesn’t sit well with the Fantastic Four.

The movie has slightly altered the original storyline from the comics. In this version, Galactus’s insatiable hunger for power is viewed as a cosmic curse rather than a necessity. This hunger could be transferred to someone who possesses significant Power Cosmic, which, of course, includes Franklin. Therefore, Galactus desires to capture Franklin to rid himself of this cosmic curse.

When the film begins, Galactus is regarded as a planet-hungry force who has desperately set his eyes on planet Earth for consumption. But, as soon as he realizes that Sue Storm is pregnant with a baby who possesses the Power Cosmic, his mission seems to change, with the desire to have Franklin. When the first family comes on the ship, he tries to strike a deal. He states that he would ensure Earth’s survival if they hand him over the baby.

The deal is ultimately disagreed upon by the family, who worry about the baby’s safety. All of them eventually run to keep the baby safe. However, the team turning down his deal doesn’t stop Galactus from coming after Franklin. Throughout the movie, he is determined to take Franklin for his own needs.
