List of all filming locations where Murderbot was shot

Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz created Apple TV+’s Murderbot, based on Martha Wells’ All Systems Red, and filmed it across multiple locations in Canada. The crew began principal photography in March 2024 and wrapped it in June 2024.

Toronto, Ontario

The production team used Toronto as a primary filming hub for Murderbot, focusing on indoor and high-tech environment scenes. They took advantage of the city’s advanced infrastructure and diverse architecture. In North York, they filmed scenes at York University Subway Station, located at 120 Ian MacDonald Boulevard.

The station’s boomerang shape and modern glass design helped create the show’s futuristic aesthetic. The crew used green screens to extend backgrounds and depict alien worlds. Toronto’s large sound stages and tax incentives supported the production’s practical set needs. Other projects filmed in the city include Another Simple Favor, Overcompensating, and Bet.

Vancouver, British Columbia

The production team chose Vancouver as the second main location for Murderbot. They used the city’s modern urban visuals to enhance the show’s sci-fi tone. The crew relied on Vancouver’s mix of architecture and practical sets to build a futuristic yet relatable world.

Vancouver has also hosted productions like See, The Last of Us, Government Cheese, and Home Before Dark. The city offers access to state-of-the-art facilities and strong post-production support.

Elora, Ontario

The production team filmed outdoor sequences in Elora, a community in Wellington County. They used the Elora Quarry Conservation Area at 319 Wellington Road 18 as one of the main locations.

Known for its 2-acre water-filled limestone quarry and 40-foot cliffs, the site provided natural scenic backdrops. The nearby Elora Gorge and Grand River were also part of the landscape. The quarry has previously appeared in the It movie series.
