Her stepfather Gary, who admired Iron Man, and her best friend Natalie were both killed in a drive-by shooting. Riri survived and decided to build armor for first responders to reach emergency scenes faster.
In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri first appears as the inventor of a Vibranium detector. This invention puts her in conflict with Wakanda and Talokan. She escapes using a prototype Ironheart suit. With Shuri’s help, she later builds an advanced version but must leave it behind. This moment marks her unofficial debut as Ironheart.
