Superman’s final trailer has now arrived ahead of its July 11 release date, and this time, there are a lot of intriguing details spread throughout. One particular moment, though minor, has caught the attention of fans. David Corenswet’s Superman has red marks around his eyes, which look like wounds. But why does Superman have them? Here’s a breakdown of what may have happened.
Why Superman’s eyes have red marks in latest trailer
The latest trailer for Superman focuses extensively on fight scenes. It also highlights the character of Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) in his most chaotic form. It gives glimpses of the powerful Ultraman, a supervillain made using Superman’s DNA. He is also rumored to be as strong as the Man of Steel.
The red marks around Superman’s eyes could be because of Ultraman. The trailer reveals a figure shooting a laser at Superman. One could assume that this figure is Ultraman, as he has abilities similar to Superman’s.
Drawing from this scene, one can also assume that Superman had to engage with Ultraman in a battle, where they both used their respective heat visions to their maximum limits. Perhaps the extensive usage of heat vision to fight Ultraman left Superman’s eyes and the areas around his eyes burned. It is unlikely that ordinary usage, like the one depicted in the trailer, would cause the superhero any sort of problems at all.
So, the battle in Metropolis shown in the trailer is most likely happening after Superman has already faced off with Ultraman. That fight may have left him with the red marks around his eyes.
Of course, until the movie is released in theatres, there is no sure way to confirm this, but it does seem like a logical explanation for the red marks.
Superman will release in theatres on July 11, 2025.
