Darth Maul was confirmed to be headlining his own series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, and fans have since been wondering if the former Sith Lord will encounter Darth Vader in the new show. Maul and Vader are both prominent characters in the Star Wars franchise. However, they have not yet crossed paths in Star Wars canon. Both characters share a mutual connection to famed Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kenobi is Maul’s killer and Vader’s former self, Anakin Skywalker’s former Jedi mentor.

Will Darth Maul fight Darth Vader in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord series?
A Darth Maul vs. Darth Vader battle has not yet been confirmed for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.
However, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord could serve as the perfect project for a hypothetical Maul and Vader showdown. This is because of the series’ timeline placement. Maul – Shadow Lord will take place during the Imperial era and will find Darth Maul leading his criminal empire, Crimson Dawn, introduced in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Darth Vader is also active during this time, as he and his Inquisitors are hunting for surviving Jedi and Force-sensitives.
Thus, Maul and Vader could cross paths while engrossed in their respective endeavors, especially if Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious discovers that large portions of the Galactic Underworld are becoming organized and sends Vader to investigate to see if they could help in, or pose a threat to, his rule.
Moreover, Darth Maul’s meeting with Darth Vader could follow up on the former’s hopes of destroying Anakin Skywalker at the end of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In that series, Maul realized that Anakin was the key to Palpatine’s evil plans. He shared this realization with Anakin’s former apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, before battling her. Notably, Maul voice actor Sam Witwer revealed in an appearance on The Sackhoff Show that one of the plot points of the upcoming series would involve Maul questioning the plan that led to Palpatine’s Galactic Empire.
Although Darth Maul and Darth Vader never formally met in Star Wars canon, they crossed paths in the Legends continuity. Their meeting was chronicled in the short story “Resurrection.” In that story, Vader and Maul engaged in a brutal lightsaber battle, with the former emerging the victor.
