Hitman developer IO Interactive is getting ready with a brand-new James Bond game, the first in the franchise in years. The first look of the James Bond game was dropped by IO Interactive earlier, and more details like the release date are expected soon at the IOI Showcase.

What is the title and expected release date of the new James Bond game?
The new James Bond game is titled 007 First Light. It is expected to be released in 2026 or early 2027, per multiple sources.
James Bond games have been around for years, and some are even quite iconic, but 007 First Light will reportedly be one of a kind. The project was announced long ago in 2020 under the codename Project 007. Five years later, the game has finally been unveiled in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post by the developer IO Interactive.

However, a lot about the upcoming game remains shrouded in mystery. Moreover, it is speculated to arrive in 2026 or early 2027, though an official confirmation is yet to arrive. Meanwhile, more details about the new James Bond game will be unveiled in the IOI Showcase on June 6, 2025.
007 First Light’s known story and setting so far
007 First Light will reportedly be set in the early years of James Bond. It will reportedly depict an origin story for James Bond, which will be a first for the franchise.
The franchise has historically relied heavily on a lack of backstory for the main character, which adds a layer of mystery to him. Even James Bond’s Scottish origin was added later, perhaps as a tribute to Sean Connery. The late actor portrayed the role for the first time on screen.
But with 007 First Light, fans may experience this unique angle of Bond’s origin. At the same time, they will also play as the iconic character, freshly rebuilt for gaming. Furthermore, as per IO Interactive’s CEO, Hakan Abrak, this game will not be based on any existing movie from the franchise.
Abrak told IGN, “What’s exciting about that project is that we actually got to do an original story…So it’s not a gamification of a movie. It’s completely beginning and becoming a story, hopefully for a big trilogy out there in the future.” This also hints that there are many more possibilities in the future for the much-awaited game.
