Is a live-action Darth Maul series coming out in 2026?
A new series featuring Darth Maul is in production and is set to arrive in 2026. However, it won’t be live-action.
On April 18, 2025, the official website of Star Wars revealed that Lucasfilm Animation is working on an animated series with Darth Maul at the center. The series, titled Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, will be set about a year after The Clone Wars finale. Furthermore, Sam Witwer will return as the voice of Maul. He had previously voiced the character in The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Although the plot details of Maul – Shadow Lord remain under wraps, the series is said to feature the Sith Lord’s plans to rule the underworld factions. In a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff on her podcast, Witwer gave us a glimpse into Maul’s depiction in the upcoming series.
“It’s about bad guys vs worse guys. This isn’t going to be a show where you find out Maul is a real teddy bear, man…We’re not doing that…But is he as bad as Sidious or Vader?” stated Witwer. “Actually no…from the Sith perspective, this guy has flaws…[there’s] humanity that seeps in at various points…because of things that have happened to him,” he added.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will make its way to Disney+ next year. However, the creators have yet to announce the release date.
