Thor 5: Why Chris Hemsworth Fans Think Sequel Is Canceled

Industry scoopers are claiming that Thor 5 has been canceled at Marvel Studios, and fans are wondering if that’s true and, if it is, the reason behind it. Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) is the fourth entry in the MCU’s Thor movie series. It concluded with a mid-credits scene that hinted at a potential fifth movie. However, if these recent rumors are to be believed, Marvel is seeking to close the chapter on the last remaining members of the original Avengers. Here is what we have learned on the subject.

Has Marvel canceled Chris Hemsworth’s Thor 5?

No, Marvel hasn’t officially announced that they have canceled Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor 5. However, Lizzie Hill of the Cosmic Circus revealed during the site’s April Q&A session that their scooper, Alex Perez, had heard “rumors” that “Marvel wanted to give Chris Hemsworth’s Thor a proper send off in these movies in an epic way.” The sources pointed to New Avengers (Vol. 3) #32 as the inspiration.

Notably, in New Avengers (Vol. 3) #32, Thor (spoilers for the comics ahead) fights the Beyonders with the help of Hyperion, Starbrand, and others.

In the above-mentioned mid-credits scene in Thor: Love and Thunder, Russell Crowe’s Zeus tasks Brett Goldstein’s Hercules with avenging him and killing Thor, setting up a potential clash between the mythology-inspired characters in Thor 5. However, the Cosmic Circus scoop seems to indicate that the movie might not happen.

The Cosmic Circus claimed that this might be the end of Hemsworth’s version of Thor. However, the character might remain in the MCU. According to Hill, Perez was told that “the Thor Corps, as well as other parts of Thor’s mythology from the comics, will be adapted for Secret Wars and beyond.”

During the same Q&A, Hill claimed that the Cosmic Circus had heard about a potential reunion between Thor and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. This reunion might take place either in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. “He’ll [Thor] essentially be one of the last OG Avengers remaining,” Hill added.
