Fans are eager to get an update on the release date of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. After the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, Sony announced the development of its two sequels. Across the Spider-Verse came out in 2023, but it looks like the wait isn’t over for the next one. Although Beyond the Spider-Verse initially received a 2024 release date, the third installment proved to be taking longer due to several factors.
Here’s everything we know about the release date of the final movie of the Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Why has Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse been delayed to 2027?
Sony has delayed the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse to 2027 because of the longer time being taken for its production.
Sony initially confirmed a 2024 release date for Beyond the Spider-Verse. But since the creators of the movie need more time to push out the completed product, Sony postponed the release to 2027.
Furthermore, like many other big-screen projects, the production of Beyond the Spider-Verse took a break due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes. Now, Sony has finally confirmed that the movie will arrive on June 4, 2027.
Additionally, Sony had planned for the sequel to Into the Spider-Verse to be a single movie. However, they soon scratched that idea and greenlit two separate movies to form a trilogy. This gave birth to two full-length scripts and increased the production time for each of them. Due to the franchise’s high-quality animation style, superb writing, and direction, each movie takes a significant time to make it out of the studio and on to the big screen. This further explains why the final installment is taking so long.
The fandom is especially impatient for the movie due to the massive cliffhangers that Across the Spider-Verse left us with. The movie ended with Miles being captured and Spot still at large. After the long wait, Beyond the Spider-Verse is expected to drop an epic finale to the trilogy.
