Daredevil: Born Again Episode 4 Easter Eggs With Skrull & Marvel References

Daredevil: Born Again Episode 4, titled “Sic Semper Systema,” is now streaming on Disney+ and associated networks and it is filled to the brim with Easter Eggs and references to the Netflix Daredevil series and other Marvel projects. As has generally been the case in franchise filmmaking, these references create almost a strong connection between the show and the ever-expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Let’s dive into all the significant Easter eggs and Marvel references in this episode of Daredevil: Born Again.

List of easter eggs and Marvel references in Daredevil: Born Again Episode 4

Daredevil: Born Again Episode 4 is a treasure trove of easter eggs and Marvel references. The cowls that Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock / Daredevil has worn appear in one of the scenes, as does the bloody wall where Matt beat Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk / Kingpin to a pulp. Further, the episode teases Ava Ayala, who becomes the White Tiger in the comics.

“When I was a boy”

The phrase “when I was a boy” initially appears multiple in the three seasons of the Daredevil show that originally streamed on Netflix. It’s something that Fisk uses to reminiscence or talk about his childhood. Thus, this easter egg in Daredevil: Born Again plays an important role.

Skrulls are still a problem

The Skrulls are mentioned in one of the scenes of this episode. This potentially indicates that they still might be regarded as a problem.

Daredevil Cowls

As mentioned above, various Daredevil cowls are featured in a scene in Episode 4. After a tumultuous interaction with Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle / Punisher, Matt has a sleepless night. He gets up and visits the place where he has hidden away his Daredevil gear to pick up some of the tools to train with them. This is when the viewers get a glimpse of the cowls.

Muse drains blood

Toward the end of the episode, a masked serial killer, presumably Muse, drains blood from his victim. He likely intends to use it in his murals.

Ava Ayala’s setup

Like Episode 3, the fourth episode sets up Ava Ayala. Further, Camila Rodriguez’s Angela del Toro debuts in this episode. In the comics, she also becomes the White Tiger, which is another hidden easter in Daredevil: Born Again.

The Bloody Wall

In one of the end scenes of the episode, Fisk is shown holding his wife’s lover Adam hostage. This is when we see the bloody wall in front of which Matt and Fisk fought in Daredevil Season 3.
