Brick-Built Godzilla and Kong Are Coming From MEGA

Fans periodically try building Godzilla or King Kong out of LEGO, but we’ve never really seen an official set. Perhaps it’s because LEGO’s not crazy about the sort of mass destruction that kaiju create.

Well, sometimes the competition sees a niche and goes for it. MEGA, the Mattel-owned brick-building toy, has ventured into licenses like Game of Thrones that LEGO would never touch, is setting foot in Legendary’s Monsterverse next year. Images of Godzilla and Kong sets recently surfaced on Amazon, though they have no in-stock date or price as yet.

The Empire Punches Back

In case you’re wondering about Kong’s new infinity gauntlet-looking weapon, the product description reveals he’s “Powered by his all-new B.E.A.S.T. Glove.” As seen in the trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, of course. Similarly, Godzilla has the pink powered-up spines, as the two prepare to take on an army of giant apes, and maybe more.

Kong stands 8 inches tall fully upright, with Godzilla 12 inches from head to tail. This puts both right around the same scale as Super7 and NECA Godzilla figures. Not that they exactly play together well, but they should display together on the same sized shelf. For scale, Kong comes with a small, buildable waterfall while Godzilla stands next to a Monarch building he may or may not choose to knock down. The cool thing about brick-built toys for kaiju is that everything is smashable.

Godzilla licensing can be complicated, but certainly fans would rejoice if this line could include all the previous Toho creatures in King of the Monsters, like Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah. The MUTOs seem like they’d lend themselves especially well to construction. Legendary’s original creations are overall less interesting, but there are certainly some cool Godzilla variations to tackle, like the fiery version.
