Could The Spirit Open in the Fall?

In the last few weeks, we’ve seen a lot of promotion for Frank Miller’s take on Will Eisner’s The Spirit from the street posters we debuted here on Superhero Hype to the very early teaser trailer and the New York Comic-Con panel over the weekend. It seemed somewhat odd for a movie that was scheduled to open in January 2009 to have so much promotion going on this far advance.

There’s now been a rumor from a regular and highly-reliable source on a message board that Lionsgate might be pushing to get the movie out early, though it will depend heavily on the post-production schedule which depends on creating an entire movie of CG backgrounds since the film was shot on green screen like Miller’s Sin City collaboration with Robert Rodriguez and Zack Snyder’s 300, the latter which spent nearly a year after shooting to perfect the CG FX.

Stay tuned for a possible confirmation or denial of this rumor from Lionsgate and/or Miller.
