Wiccan was the breakout character of the MCU series Agatha All Along. The magic-wielding son of Scarlet Witch is reported to have a big role in the upcoming VisionQuest series. In anticipation of that, the character’s original incarnation is getting a revamp in a new comic book.

Written by Wyatt Kennedy, with art by Andy Pereira, Wiccan: Witches’ Road #1 reintroduces the character of William “Billy” Kaplan. Originally, Billy was introduced in the Young Avengers comics as a teenage hero called The Asgardian. Later stories confirmed him as one of the reborn sons of the Scarlet Witch and a magician posing as a Norse god. He also married his teammate, Hulkling, who was a Kree/Skrull hybrid posing as a Gamma Mutate like Hulk.

The opening pages of Wiccan: Witches’ Road #1 briefly explain this backstory for the benefit of new readers; many of whom are presumably MCU fans who liked Wiccan in Agatha All Along. It also outlines recent events and how Billy had been living off-world for the past few years. This was due to Hulkling becoming the leader of a united Kree/Skrull empire. However, both heroes were forced to return to Earth after Hulkling was overthrown during the 2025 Imperial event.
Witches Road sets new status quo for Wiccan

Wiccan: Witches’ Road #1 serves as a fantastic introduction to the character that inspired the MCU’s Billy Maximoff. This first issue reveals Billy as a capable hero with survival skills and combat training beyond slinging spells. A flashback during a conversation with Hulking explains this is due to his training with Kate Bishop, a.k.a. Hawkeye.
This proves fortunate as Hulking is injured and Wiccan seems to have lost his powers. This sets up a quest. After Billy saves a nearby village from a monster, they direct Billy to a local witch who might help him recover his missing mojo.

This setup may seem familiar to MCU fans, but Wiccan: Witches’ Road #1 takes the idea in new directions. The witch in question is a familiar figure, but it is not Wanda Maximoff or Agatha Harkness. Suffice it to say where the story goes from here will be of interest to both MCU fans waiting for VisionQuest and fans of the mystic side of Marvel.
Wiccan: Witches’ Road #1 is now available in comic shops everywhere.
