One World Under Doom has been the major event book of Marvel Comics in 2025. The miniseries saw Doctor Doom claim the title of Sorcerer Supreme and leadership of Earth. It was known from the beginning this would be temporary. Indeed, several series built up the mystery of who would take the mantle after Doom’s inevitable defeat. However, Marvel spoiled the ending of One World Under Doom with a press release promoting a new comic centered around the incipient Sorcerer Supreme, angering comics readers in the process.
The reaction on social media in the wake of the Marvel press release was both swift and brutal. “I was gonna read the series because of the marketed mystery of who it might be,” complained X user @Jayveemon. “Now I have no reason to pitch this series at work to customers.” @LoganLoper1 agreed, asking “Wtf is the point in spoiling it?”

Who is the new Sorcerer Supreme after Doctor Doom?
Marvel spoiled the ending of One World Under Doom #9 with a press release promoting the first issue of a new Sorcerer Supreme monthly comic. This release unveiled the upcoming series’ creative team and the main cover of the first issue. All of this confirmed the new Sorcerer Supreme as the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff.

The new series will find Wanda facing multiple challengers to her new title. Chief among these are the Vishanti, who favor Wanda’s former mentor Agatha Harkness taking the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme. Wanda will also do battle with Madelyne Pryor, the former Goblin Queen and current queen of Limbo. At this time, the first issue is scheduled for release on December 31, 2025.
It is natural for Marvel to wish to promote the new series and Scarlet Witch’s new role. The character has a big fan following, thanks to the MCU. That following was displeased by the character’s treatment in the Doctor Strange sequel and would doubtlessly be happy to see Wanda getting the respect they think they deserve. However, the comic readers’ reaction to having Marvel’s biggest event of the year spoiled is also understandable.
