Superman’s Closest Ally Just Got a Huge Superpower Upgrade

Recent events in the monthly Superman comic have shaken up the status quo of the House of El. Costumes have changed, friends have become enemies, and some allies lost their superpowers. However, one hero has regained the superpowers which they had lost.

Superman’s Closest Ally Just Got a Huge Superpower Upgrade

Written by Joshua Williamson, with art by Eddy Barrows and Eber Ferreira, Superman #31 ties into the DC K.O. event. Most of the issue centers around Clark Kent as he considers how to evacuate the Earth before a superhero battle royale begins. This leads both him and Lois Lane to separately consult the archives of Krypton’s knowledge in the Fortress of Solitude.

As Lois seeks information, she is unexpectedly joined by Superboy-Prime. The Clark Kent of another Earth, Superboy-Prime blends the power of Superman with the genre awareness and insanity of Deadpool. He is fully aware that he lives in a comic book and excuses his killing people with claims that some editor will bring people back to life if they are important.

Needless to say, Superman does not like Superboy-Prime much. However, he reluctantly accepted his doppelganger’s help in fighting a Legion of Super-Heroes that was corrupted by Darkseid. Superboy-Prime made a valiant effort, but was unable to hold the Omega Legion off any longer. Indeed, he was chased into the past by a corrupted version of Sun Boy. However, before Sun Boy could finish the anti-hero off, Superboy-Prime laughingly reminded him of “the last page reveal.”

Lois Lane is Superwoman again

The final page of the comic revealed Lois Lane hovering off the ground in shock. Superboy-Prime explained that Sun Boy had reawakened her powers by blasting her with focused radiant energy. The comic concludes with a promise that next month, Superboy-Prime and the repowered Superwoman will join forces.

Lois Lane has taken the name of Superwoman several times since her creation. The most recent occurrence came at the start of the DC Rebirth era in 2016. However, Lois reacquired Kryptonian superpowers following the 2024 Absolute Power event. This was due to her accidentally stealing the powers of General Zod.

However, Lois lost her powers earlier this year in Superman #25, following a battle with a superpowered clone of Lex Luthor dubbed X-El. It is unclear how long her powers will remain this time. For the moment, however, Superboy-Prime has a welcome ally.

Superman #31 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
