Peacemaker Season 2’s Perfect Earth Might Hide a Sinister Twist

Building off of Lex Luthor’s pocket universe in Superman, the story of Peacemaker Season 2 expanded the DCU into a multiverse. Christopher Smith found his way into another world, which he declared the “best dimension ever.” However, this is reason to believe this seemingly perfect alternate Earth holds a sinister secret.

Peacemaker Season 2's Perfect Earth Might Hide a Sinister Twist

The season premiere found Peacemaker discovering a parallel Earth accessible through the quantum unfolding storage area in his father’s home. (This world was dubbed Earth 2 by James Gunn in a post on Threads.) After accidentally killing his doppelganger from this Earth, Christopher Smith began to explore Earth 2.

To Smith’s surprise, his variant’s life was much better, even ignoring that he was a popular and respected superhero. His father was a superhero on Earth 2, rather than a supervillain, and his brother, Keith, was alive. Collectively, they were a superhero team known as the Top Trio. Smith also discovered that his doppelganger had dated that world’s version of ARGUS Agent Emilia Harcourt. This pushed Peacemaker to try and rekindle the romance, as his version of Harcourt rejected his romantic attentions, after a one-night stand she described as “a mistake.”

Earth 2 seemed to be a better world in many ways, even outside of Peacemaker’s personal life. However, there were hints of something sinister about the society of this alternate reality. Indeed, one fan theory suggests that the world James Gunn dubbed “Earth 2” is truly the DCU version of Earth-X.

DC Comics’ Earth-X Setting Explained

The world known as Earth-X first appeared in 1973’s Justice League of America #107, in the story called “Crisis on Earth-X!” The comic found the JLA and Justice Society of America transported to another Earth, where the Nazis won World War II. They joined forces with the superheroes of that world, aiding their fight for liberty before returning to their Earths. (The heroes of Earth-X were all originally created for Quality Comics in the 1940s, before being purchased by DC Comics.)

The Earth-X concept has been revamped several times since then. Perhaps the most famous version was the ArrowverseCrisis on Earth-X‘ crossover event between Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. In the modern DC Comics Universe, Earth-X is also known as Earth-10. Apart from the Quality Comics heroes, it is home to Nazi versions of the Justice League, like Overman, Leatherwing, and Brunhilde.

Why DCU Earth 2 might really be DCU Earth-X

There are several clues that the Earth 2 presented in Peacemaker Season 2 might be run by white supremacists. Careful examination of the scenes on Earth 2 confirms that there are no non-Caucasian actors. This is particularly notable given the racial variety of the background actors in the scenes set on DCU Earth-Prime.

One of the newspapers framed in the Smith family home discusses a battle with “the Rainbow Creature.” While this is an actual character from the classic Batman comics, it’s being singled out seems to be an LGBTQIA+ reference. It is also notable that the Earth 2 Agent Harcourt dresses in a traditional feminine manner, with longer hair and a full skirt. This would be in keeping with the Nazi Germany policy of strictly enforced gender roles.

The biggest sign is also the most subtle. In the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere, both Keith Smith and his father were surprised to see Christopher in their home. They both said they thought he was on a mission in the city of Blüdhaven, which is the hometown of Nightwing in DC Comics. However, they said the city name with a long /u/ as in blue. This is characteristic of the German language.

Typically, the short /u/ (or /oo/) sound, as in blood, is used by English speakers. Thanks to Creature Commandos, we know the short /u/ pronunciation is used on DCU Earth-Prime. This would seem to indicate that the people of Earth 2, for some reason, favor German pronunciation in English-speaking countries. While this does not prove the Nazis took over the world or that DCU’s Earth 2 is Earth-X, this would be an obvious justification for this incongruity.
