Beyond saving lives and fighting crime, Spider-Man has been a force for good as an example. Peter Parker has mentored many young heroes and even inspired some villains to try and turn over a new leaf. One such villain will be inspired to become a crime-fighter in a new solo series. However, their motives may not be entirely pure.

Which Spider-Man villain has finally turned good?
Spinning out of Amazing Spider-Man, the new Black Cat series finds the feline femme fatale trying to break good. Felicia Hardy has helped Peter Parker take down more murderous villains over the years. However, her heroism was always short-lived, as she was more interested in impressing “Spider” than helping people.
That changes when it becomes apparent that something has snapped in Peter Parker. The friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is a lot less friendly and the low level criminals are running out of control. When they start crossing Black Cat’s path, she decides to step in and do something to stop the crime wave.
The main cover and first five pages of Black Cat #1 may be viewed below.
While nominally now a hero, Black Cat’s face-turn is not entirely altruistic. It seems to be partly motivated by other villains annoying her and partly intended to spite Spider-Man. This is in keeping with Felicia’s portrayal over the past few years.
Unlike Catwoman, who is now accepted without reservation by the Batman family, Black Cat is largely amoral. It is not that Felica Hardy is without scruples, but she is more inclined to put a payday over helping people. Also, while Selina Kyle became a thief to survive, Felicia Hardy became a criminal for the thrill of it. Given that, it will be interesting to see if Black Cat can remain a hero.
Black Cat #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on August 20, 2025.
