On Earth-65, it was Gwen Stacy who got spider-powers as a teenager instead of Peter Parker. Since then, the so-called Spider-Gwen has undergone a lot of changes. Her new solo series, All-New Spider Gwen: The Ghost Spider offers more changes, which, ironically, help restore the character to her most familiar form from the Spider-Verse movies.

Written by Stephanie Phillips, with art by Paolo Villanelli, the new comic finds Gwen Stacy settling into a new life on a new Earth. The reality altering abilities of a Cosmic Cube allowed her to change things for the better. Beyond restoring her original powers, she also reedited herself and her father into the main Marvel Universe of Earth-616. She also has a new costume with a black mask, and a partnership with the anti-hero Black Tarantula.

All-New Spider Gwen sets new status quo more in-line with Spider-Verse movies
To call the Spider-Gwen comics of the past few years convoluted would be putting it mildly. Outside of the various comics sending this Gwen Stacy into the Spider-Verse, she also served a stint in the TVA. She also lost her powers and was dependent on a symbiote for some time. This was all a bit much for a character best known from the movies and the Spidey and His Amazing Friends cartoon.

The new series, for all it changes, seems to take Gwen Stacy back to basics. While she may be based on Earth-616, she’s back to doing whatever a spider can. It will be interesting, however to see how the changes in reality effect her relationships with with Miles Morales and Peter Parker.
All-New Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on August 20, 2025.
