Spider-Man Villain Gains Surprising Honor From Predators

Despite being one of the founding members of the Sinister Six, Kraven the Hunter has rarely been afforded much respect. While undoubtedly skilled in tracking and combat, his abilities pale to most of the other villains in the rogues’ gallery of Spider-Man. And yet, Sergei Kravinoff was afforded a rare honor by the Predators in Predator vs. Spider-Man #4.

Spider-Man Villain Gains Surprising Honor From Predators

Written by Benjamin Percy, with art by Marcelo Ferreira, Predator vs. Spider-Man found multiple members of the Yautja race in New York City. One of them, known as The Skinner, was an outcast from Predator society. The Yautja chiefly hunted for sport and to showcase their skills. Conversely, Skinner killed purely for the pleasure of killing. Such were his crimes that a party of Predators tracked Skinner to Earth to put him down.

Kraven the Hunter spent most of the series tracking Spider-Man and Skinner through the sites of Skinner’s murders in Manhattan. He was able to ambush Skinner as the Predator was sabotaging the ship of the Yautja hunting party seeking to stop him. While Kraven did not escape the battle unwounded, he ultimately won out over Skinner.

It is a rare thing for a human to best one of the Yautja. It is rarer still for them to accomplish it with primitive weapons. And for all their viciousness, most of the Yautja will honor an enemy who proves their worth. That deed alone would be enough to earn Kraven his life.

However, the Predators went a step further, carving the insignia Skinner chose as his into Kraven’s forehead. They also allowed him to join them in their hunt for new challenges among the stars. In the end, Kraven’s ultimate challenge to prove himself was not Spider-Man; it was a Predator.
