Hal Jordan Finds Former Green Lantern in Hell

Hal Jordan has faced demons as a member of the Green Lantern Corps. He had even literally been to Hell when he was bonded to The Spectre. However, despite all the amazing things he had seen as a hero, Hal never expected to find a friend and former Green Lantern waiting for him during a recent trip to Hell.

Written by Jeremy Adams, with art by Xermanico, Green Lantern #22 continued Hal Jordan’s current cosmic adventure. The villain Sorrow sought to build a Central Power Battery of his own. This would allow him to better channel sadness into energy, as GLC members harness their willpower. This led to a race around reality, as Jordan sought to gather the rare materials needed to build the battery first.

To that end, having secured a key to Hell, Jordan teamed with the Phantom Stranger and the angel Zauriel. The trio descended into the pit, thinking they were ready for anything. However, Jordan was stunned to be greeted by an old friend, who was the last person he expected to find in Hell; the former Green Lantern G’Nort.

Who is the Green Lantern G’Nort?

G’Nort first appeared during the 1988 Millennium event, in Justice League International #10. The Justice League discovered G’nort wandering the halls of a base on Orinda, the invisible homeworld of the Manhunters. However, this was not an intentional act of heroism. G’Nort had gotten lost trying to find a bathroom.

According to Hal Jordan, G’Nort was only recruited to the Corps due to his Uncle G’newman being a respected hero. However, it was later revealed that both G’newman and G’nort wielded counterfeit Green Lantern rings. This was all part of a scheme by the Weaponeers of Qward to discredit the GLC by empowering total incompetents.

Despite this, the Guardians of the Universe saw fit to recruit G’Nort in earnest once the ruse was uncovered. While he was clumsy and foolish on a level comparable to Jar Jar Binks, G’Nort was honest and fearless. That qualified him to be a Green Lantern, much to the annoyance of Hal Jordan and several other Corps members. However, while he may be annoying, it is unclear what G’Nort might have done to merit being sent to Hell.

Green Lantern #22 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
