There are many heroes who use the humble bow and arrow to fight crime. The image is a romantic one, harkening back to the days of Robin Hood. However, there are certain issues with an archer going into battle. Namely, how they keep fighting once they eventually run out of arrows. Ultimates #10 reveals how the Hawkeye of the Ultimate Universe, Charli Ramsey, deals with this problem.

Written by Deniz Camp, with art by Juan Frigeri, Ultimates #10 centers around a raid on the Red Skulls. A neo-Nazi group that appropriated the legacies of the Red Skull and The Punisher, The Red Skulls are one of the most dangerous militias in the Ultimate Universe. Captain America personally leads the team’s most covert-capable members into the terrorist’s compound. It is in the middle of this fight where it is revealed why Hawkeye never seems to run out of ammunition.
Hawkeye has a quiver that makes arrows

While assessing the capabilities of his teammates, Human Torch notes a unique property of Hawkeye’s quiver. Namely, that it “fabricates noise-cancelling knockout arrows.” Presumably this is an invention of Tony Stark and is capable of creating other trick arrows on the fly.

While the exact science behind the quiver is not explained, it does neatly address the question of why Hawkeye always has plenty of arrows. While every hero who uses the Hawkeye name is likely careful to conserve their trick arrows, sooner or later they do run the risk of running out.
The brief aside in Ultimates #10 is a clever way of addressing the issue, which also highlights the skill of the team’s technocrat in finding ways to overcome potential problems his teammates will inevitably face on the field of battle.
