They say the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Nobody knows that better than the Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes. He assembled a new team of people with dark pasts hoping to break good. However, these new Thunderbolts accidentally planted the seed that led to One World Under Doom. Now Bucky and his allies must confront Doctor Doom and save the world in Thunderbolts: Doomstrike #1.

Written by Jackson Lanzing and Colin Kelley, with art by Tommaso Bianchi, Thunderbolts: Doomstrike #1 opens with a meeting of the minds. Doctor Doom wishes to thank Barnes for his role in spurring him to conquer the Earth and offers him a job. Unsurprisingly, he declines. This leads to a firefight, for Doom will not tolerate an insult from anyone.

Current Thunderbolts team explained
The first Thunderbolts team was formed by a group of supervillains playing at being heroes as part of a larger scheme. However, some of these villains discovered they honestly enjoyed being good. Since that time, several groups have used the name. Some of them were villains or shady anti-heroes making an honest effort at reformation. Others stuck with the first team’s original concept of villains posing as heroes.

The squad formed by Bucky Barnes in the 2024 Thunderbolts miniseries contained a mix of former villains and antiheroes. Apart from himself, the team included Black Widow, Shang Chi, and Sharon Carter. It also included several characters from the upcoming Thunderbolts* movie, like White Widow, Red Guardian, and US Agent. However the covers for this first issue hint at his recruiting some of the reformed villains from the original team, including Songbird, Moonstone, Fixer, Citizen V, and Atlas.
