Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1 Reveals New Amazo Weakness

Created by the mad Professor Ivo, Amazo is one of the most dangerous enemies of the Justice League. The original android could replicate the powers and abilities of any superhero it encountered. Now, Amanda Waller has sponsored a new breed of Amazo, which removes superpowers completely instead of copying them. Thankfully for Earth’s heroes, Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1 shows that the new robots have an exploitable weakness.

Written by Leah Williams, with art by Caitlin Yarsky, Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1 centers around Billy Batson and Mary Bromfield. The secret identities of Shazam and Mary Marvel take refuge in the Rock of Eternity, hoping to find magic weapons that might stop the new Amazo that depowered Wonder Woman. Unfortunately, they are caught off-guard as one of the robots uses Parasite to track them down.

Thankfully, Black Adam appears to do battle with the android menace. While Black Adam has no love for the Shazam Family, he will not allow anyone to attack the Rock of Eternity. It is during this battle that the Wisdom of Zehuti allows Black Adam to find the new Amazo’s weakness.

New Amazo drones take heroes’ powers and personalities

The original Amazo copied the weaknesses of its enemies as well as their powers. This enabled the heroes to fight back by exploiting their own limits. Black Adam discovered that the new Amazo droids had a similar drawback. Namely, that they absorbed the personalities of the heroes whose powers they stole.

For obvious reasons, Amanda Waller had the new breed of Amazo programmed without personalities. They were meant to follow her orders without thought. However, the robots required some ability to think for their power-stealing abilities to function.

This made them confused as their electronic brains pondered the conflict between their orders and the morality of the many heroes they depowered. Unfortunately, Black Adam fell before he could take advantage of this discovery. However, this information does put an interesting twist on the classic Amazo weakness and gives Earth’s remaining superheroes a chance at victory.
