Superman: House of Brainiac Special Preview Explains A Lobo Conflict

Many DC Comics readers were confused by one aspect of the House of Brainiac event. The story introduced a city from Czarnia, the homeworld of Lobo, which had been stolen by Brainiac. And yet, the inhabitants of this city were as wild as the Main Man and willing to serve in Brainiac’s army. This conflicted with the classic image of Czarnia as an idyllic world ruled by science and reason, not unlike Krypton. At least, that’s how it was until the Main Man killed them all.

Superman: House of Brainiac Special #1 reconciles these seemingly conflicting accounts. Written by Joshua Williamson, with art by Edwin Galmon, the opening story finds Brainiac reflecting on how he acquired Paz City. This reintroduces an infamous figure from Lobo’s past, the woman known as Tribb.

Lobo’s Enemy Miss Tribb Explained

First appearing in 1991’s Lobo #1, Miss Tribb was introduced as the Main Man’s fourth grade history teacher. Little was known about Miss Tribb beyond the fact that she was ancient, even by the standards of the immortal Czarnians. She also wrote the literal book on Lobo, and somehow survived the genocide that killed the rest of their species.

The Main Man was pressed into service by the head of LEGION to act as Miss Tribb’s bodyguard. This was necessary due to her near superhuman ability to annoy people, including Lobo himself. Thankfully, Lobo was able to honor the terms of his contract and deliver Miss Tribb to the head of the LEGION. He then killed her himself in Lobo #4.

The preview of Superman: House of Brainiac Special #1 reveals Miss Tribb was also a Czarnian general. It was she who sought out Brainiac and offered him Paz City, which had become a haven for those who defied the order of the rest of the planet. This neatly explains the two conflicting portrayals of Czarnia in the Lobo comics.

Superman: House of Brainiac Special #1 arrives in comic shops on April 30, 2024.
