Star Trek Comic Special Celebrates the Franchise’s LGBTQ+ Characters

IDW Publishing has announced Star Trek: Celebrations, a new comic book one-shot spotlighting the Star Trek franchise’s LGBTQ+ characters.

As revealed exclusively by Screen Rant, Star Trek: Celebrations #1 arrives in comic shops at the end of May — just in time for the beginning of Pride Month in June. The one-shot anthology special includes stories from the likes of Vita Ayala, Mags Visaggio, and Steve Orlando, among others. Paulina Ganucheau provides the cover art — which features such iconic Trek characters as Hikaru Sulu, Seven of Nine, Raffi Musiker, Paul Stamets, Dr. Hugh Culber, Adira Tal, Christine Chapel, Beckett Mariner, and more.

What to expect from Star Trek: Celebrations

“What is Star Trek, if not the idea of celebrating the best of us, right? The best of humanity, and coming together. There’s a really great quote from [franchise creator] Gene Roddenberry that that’s the future he wants to see: a future where we are all not just tolerating one another, but celebrating one another,” IDW and Star Trek group editor Heather Antos said.

“That is the intention behind Celebrations, and where we get the title from,” Antos continued. “It’s wanting to celebrate the badasses of the Star Trek universe, whether that’s Culber and Stamets, whether that’s Mariner, whether that’s Seven and Raffi … there’s so many characters that we’re going to get to see explored here by some incredible, incredible writers.”

Star Trek: Celebrations #1 goes on sale Wednesday, May 29 from IDW Publishing.
