Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #25 Boldly Goes to Joker and Lex Luthor’s First Meeting

DC has dished on the upcoming 25th issue of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest by Mark Waid and Dan Mora.

Per DC, Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #25 flies into comic shops this coming March. The landmark issue features a “special lead-in story” showing the first meeting between Lex Luthor and the Joker — which spells “big trouble” for Batman and Superman. The book also pits the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel against Doom-Mite in a story that spins out of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest Annual #1 and sets the stage for a new arc.

In addition to providing the comic’s main cover, series artist Mora has crafted a special “cameo” variant cover for World’s Finest #25. This variant features none other than Star Trek icon William Shatner alongside the likes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and other DC heroes.

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest’s previous cameo variants

Of course, Shatner is hardly the first celebrity to appear on a cover for Batman/Superman: World’s Finest. The series has previously featured cameo variants starring the likes of Paul McCartney, Jack White, and Jerry Seinfeld. Nicolas Cage scored his own World’s Finest variant earlier this year to celebrate his cameo as Superman in the DC movie The Flash. Cage was previously attached to play the Man of Steel in the unproduced 1990s movie Superman Lives before voicing the character in 2018’s Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.

Coincidentally, Shatner himself is no stranger to the DC multiverse. He previously voiced Harvey Dent/Two-Face in 2017’s Batman vs. Two-Face. Shatner starred in the animated film alongside fellow 1960s television legends Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar.
