Marvel’s Newest X-Men Series Will Be a Digital Exclusive

The end of Jonathan Hickman’s X-Men run is near. Regardless, he still has at least one more story with mutants on the horizon. Marvel has just announced that Hickman is teaming up with artist Declan Shalvey on a new digital-only X-Men series.

Marvel began teasing the series earlier today with a new 15-second video posted on social media. The clip doesn’t reveal the title of the series or how many issues it will last. But it does confirm that it will only be available to Marvel Unlimited subscribers. And it sounds like the first installment bows this Thursday, September 9. Check out the announcement below.

This won’t be Marvels’ first foray into digital-exclusive territory. Hickman himself previously tackled another digital-first series that paired Cannonball and Sunspot during their stint in Mojoworld. Other digital exclusive Marvel titles include The Immortal Iron Fists and Thor vs. Hulk.

Hickman formally announced his X-Men departure last month. He famously re-defined mutants’ place in the Marvel Universe with House of X and Powers of X in 2019. Both series established the mutants’ island nation of Krakoa as a global superpower. That also led to surplus of relaunched X-books under the Marvel banner, all of which Hickman has been guiding as the Head of X. His run will officially come to an end with the conclusion of Inferno later this year. However, Hickman will continue to remain in the Marvel stable while also creating new digital comics for Substack.
