Back in 2017, America Chavez, a.k.a. Miss America, became the first Latin-American LGBTQ hero to headline a Marvel comic. She subsequently became member of Marvel’s West Coast Avengers relaunch in 2018. But now, it looks like the House of Ideas is getting ready to put Chavez back in the spotlight. Via Bleeding Cool, America will star in a new five-issue miniseries, America Chavez: Made in the USA, launching this summer.
Writer Kalinda Vazquez and artist Carlos Gomez are spearheading Made in the USA. And judging by the first issue’s solicit, they also plan on having America take a closer look at her past. Unfortunately, she might not like what she learns about herself.
“America Chavez is incredible – her origins, her strength, her dimension-shattering star portals!” the description reads. “But when the foundation of everything she believes is shaken, America will stand up and face the parts of herself she’s been running from. From writer Kalinda Vazquez (Marvel’s Runaways) and artist Carlos Gomez (Amazing Mary Jane) comes an explosive, brand-new story all about what made America Chavez who she is – and what she’ll do to protect the ones she loves.”

Chavez has traveled across the multiverse and also adopted her own superhero persona. Aside from her tenure on the West Coast Avengers, she has also served as a member of the Teen Brigade, Young Avengers, A-Force, and the Ultimates. She possesses the powers of flight, superhuman strength and durability, and the ability to open doors to other realities.
America Chavez: Made in the USA #1 will hit comic store shelves sometime in June. You can take a look at two covers for the first issue below.
