DC Releases a Trailer for Dear Justice League Graphic Novel

Let’s face it: when you were a kid, you would have jumped at the chance to interview your favorite superhero. A new graphic novel aimed at younger audiences plans to give some (fictional) youngsters that chance. DC has unveiled a new trailer for Dear Justice League, which features several costumed heroes fielding questions from curious fans.

Batman, Superman, The Flash, Aquaman, Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Green Lantern all make appearances in the story. It looks like the heroes will interact with kids via social media, with questions ranging from serious to downright goofy. In one instance, Superman is asked if he’s ever messed up (we’re guessing Superman IV isn’t the answer…). Other kids want to know if Aquaman smells like a fish or if Hawkgirl devours small mammals like a real hawk.

Dear Justice League is written by Michael Northrop and illustrated by Gustavo Duarte. Northrop is best known for his TombQuest series of young-adult novels. Duarte is a Brazilian cartoonist who previously worked for Marvel on an issue of Guardians of the Galaxy.

“In Dear Justice League, I wanted to explore who these DC Super Heroes are behind the masks and answer the kinds of questions kids would have for these larger than life figures,” Northrop said in a statement. “On a personal note, comics helped me become a better reader, a better storyteller and helped me fit in as a kid. Writing about these same characters is a dream come true and feels like coming full circle to where things began for me as a reader.”

“I hope kids enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it and I hope it helps young fans see that everyone is going through something,” continued Northrop. “Even when it seems like someone is perfect or has it made, they’re probably trying to figure it out just like the rest of us.”

DC will release an excerpt from Dear Justice League this Saturday in honor of Free Comic Book Day. The full graphic novel will be available on August 6 and can be pre-ordered here. You can check out the trailer below, then tell us what you think in the comment section!
