Matt Damon was spotted filming in Los Angeles in a bizarre superhero costume for his upcoming sci-fi movie. The unexpected set photos offer a first glimpse at the movie’s unusual visual style.
According to images shared by TMZ, the Oscar-winning actor was seen wearing a plain black sleeveless shirt and was clean-shaven. A video from the set also showed Damon wearing a bright red jumpsuit, gloves, and futuristic headgear.
He is filming a scene with his co-stars, who are dressed in similar outfits of different colors. Their costumes evoke the look of the 1990s Power Rangers franchise. The 3-minute footage also shows the movie director explaining the scene to Damon and his co-stars.
The footage appears to place the Odyssey star among other superhero characters, though his exact role remains unknown.
What we know about the sci-fi movie so far
The upcoming sci-fi film remains largely under wraps. However, industry reports have shed light on Matt Damon’s latest venture following his success in The Odyssey.
Directed by Academy Award winners Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the sci-fi action comedy drama draws huge inspiration from the Power Rangers franchise.
While the filmmakers did not reveal the plot details, the story reportedly moves between two timelines, with one set in the 1980s and the other in the present day. It focuses on five teenagers in color-coded outfits battling a major villain. Early reports also mentioned Damon playing a superhero-like figure guiding the teenagers.
The 55-year-old is joined by Good Fortune star Sandra Oh, both of whom will play as parents to one of the five teenagers in the old timeline. Sean Kaufman, Silvia Dionicio, Jackson Kelly, Kerrice Brooks, and Thalia Dudek play the young characters.
Universal Pictures is planning to release the movie in theaters on November 19, 2027. The project is supposedly budgeted at around $150 million and rumored to have the working title Thasnagar.
