Netflix’s Minecraft animated series has received a major update after months without news. The latest confirmation should ease concerns that the animated project had been quietly canceled.
Mojang Studios Chief Creative Officer Jens Bergensten addressed the status of the series on Bluesky. A fan asked whether the Netflix series was still in the works, noting that its last major public update came after the 2025 Annecy Animation Festival. Bergensten replied, “Yes, we are still working on it!”
Why Netflix’s Minecraft animated series isn’t canceled
Netflix’s Minecraft animated series hasn’t been canceled, as production is reportedly still underway. The streaming platform also confirmed to What’s on Netflix that work remains underway, although no release date or detailed production timeline has been announced.
Netflix and Mojang Studios first announced the CG-animated series in 2024. The project was announced as part of the game’s 15th-anniversary celebration and will tell an original story with new characters. Netflix initially announced Flying Bark as the animation studio, while later reports identified WildBrain and Flying Bark as involved in the project.
The series is planned as a 30-minute CG-animated action-adventure comedy. Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander are involved as showrunners and executive producers, while A.C. Bradley serves as head writer.
The last major public update came at Annecy in June 2025. Netflix introduced members of the core creative team and showed early material from the series. However, the project received no major update during Netflix’s 2026 Annecy presentation, adding to the uncertainty.
There is still no official premiere date. What’s on Netflix estimates that the series could arrive in 2027 at the earliest, although a 2028 release is also possible.
The animated series could potentially arrive after A Minecraft Movie Squared. The live-action sequel began filming in New Zealand in May 2026 and is scheduled to reach theaters on July 23, 2027.
