Spider-Man: Brand New Day is closing in on another box-office milestone, with its fourth weekend expected to add enough cash to push its worldwide haul beyond $2.1 billion. That run would put the Marvel adventure ahead of two major Disney franchises and further cement its place among Hollywood’s biggest modern hits.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s fourth weekend will send it past Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is projected to collect about $35 million domestically and another $85 million worldwide during its fourth frame. Deadline says that represents roughly a 50% drop in North America, a hold that compares favorably with the performance of Avengers: Endgame during the same point in its run.
That $85 million global weekend could prove especially important. Once the new money lands, Spider-Man: Brand New Day should move past the lifetime worldwide grosses of both Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The latter remains a historic benchmark in North America, where it became the first movie to cross $900 million.
The superhero film has already smashed one domestic record by reaching $800 million in just 19 days. Deadline reported that the achievement was reached earlier this week, making it the fastest movie ever to reach that figure in the U.S. and Canada. Its fourth weekend will not challenge American Sniper’s $89.3 million fourth-frame record or Avatar’s $50.3 million haul, but the overall run remains formidable.
The next question involves how far the wall comes down. The film is unlikely to catch Avatar at roughly $2.9 billion or Avengers: Endgame at about $2.79 billion, while China’s Ne Zha 2 also sits higher at around $2.27 billion. Still, crossing $2.1 billion would give the Sony release another bragging right in an already enormous theatrical campaign.
The weekend also brings fresh competition from Insidious: Out of the Further, which targets $23 million to $27 million domestically and $49 million to $53 million worldwide. Even with a new horror challenger sharing premium screens, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to be on top.
