It: Welcome to Derry Finally Gets Great Season 2 News as Show Makes Big Creative Change

HBO has finally renewed It: Welcome to Derry for a second season. While a confirmed release date for the prequel story has not yet been announced, the upcoming season is getting a major creative change.

Season 1 premiered on HBO and Max on October 26, 2025, with the last episode dropping on December 14, 2025, and was directed by Andy Muschietti, Andrew Bernstein, Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour, and Jamie Travis. The season had two showrunners, Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, who were also the executive producers alongside others. However, the Season 2 crew is witnessing a major creative change. Brad Caleb Kane will be the sole showrunner for the upcoming HBO horror series.

Sarah Aubrey, Head of HBO Max Original Programming, reflected on the awaited renewal and stated, “We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s horrifically iconic adaptation. Together with Brad Caleb Kane, they will break new ground in season two, deepening the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans love to devour.”

The synopsis for the second season reads, “Set in the world of Stephen King’s “IT” universe, IT: WELCOME TO DERRY is based on King’s “IT” novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films “IT” and “IT Chapter Two.” Season two takes place in 1935 during the Great Depression and centers on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror.”
