X-Men Casting Update Strongly Teases Who Adam Driver Is Actually Playing in the MCU

Adam Driver has reportedly entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the latest updates, the star actor will be playing a major X-Men character.

Per The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision newsletter, Driver is all set to play Sebastian Shaw. While fans will surely look forward to the Star Wars alum’s inclusion, there has been no official confirmation about the same from Marvel. For a long time, Driver was strongly rumored to play Magneto in the MCU. However, if the newest reports are true, then all those speculations will reach a dead end.

Interestingly, there had been more than one speculation about Driver. The actor has been speculated to play several roles in the MCU’s X-Men reboot ranging from Mr. Sinister to Magneto. Now, with The Hollywood Reporter dropping an update, the news surely holds some significant weight.

The X-Men villain connection behind the latest casting speculation

Sebastian Shaw is a well-known villain from the Marvel comics. He leads the secretive organization called the Hellfire Club and has some exceptionally powerful mutant abilities. One of the USPs of the character is how Shaw can absorb energy while channeling it to elevate his physical strength. Interestingly, Shaw’s organization has time and again posed significant problems for the X-Men. If the rumors are true, Driver will be taking over from Kevin Bacon, who played the villainous character back in 2011’s X-Men: First Class.

Marvel is focusing heavily on the X-Men at the moment. Since acquiring the product, there has been a long wait for the fans to see the X-Men get a standalone movie. With Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars coming up, mutants are likely to play a huge role in the storyline.

Marvel hasn’t definitively mentioned a release date for a standalone X-Men movie. But they have already started with their casting. Samara Weaving has been confirmed to play Emma Frost, while Kit Connor will play Cyclops. Sadie Sink has already debuted as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
