Marvel Studios may be looking to spice things up in Avengers: Doomsday. The upcoming film will feature many new crossovers, some venturing into uncharted territory.
What is the new Avengers: Doomsday rumor?
Doomsday is set to feature the Avengers, the original X-Men, and the Fantastic Four sharing the screen. According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, “Yelena and Mystique will have some hot scenes together in Avengers Doomsday.” It should be noted that this is only a rumor at this time, and it should be treated as such, as official plot details for Avengers: Doomsday remain under wraps.
As for what these “hot scenes” will entail, it’s unclear whether the scooper is being playful with words or simply teasing what audiences already know. The film’s first trailer, shown at CinemaCon, featured Mystique and Yelena fighting each other, a scene even recreated in the fan-made LEGO version. Reportedly, the trailer showed Mystique shapeshifting into Yelena, giving audiences a Yelena vs. Yelena fight reminiscent of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine facing off against Mystique in the original X-Men film.
In Doomsday, Mystique will be played by Rebecca Romijn, who last played the role in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. Since then, the role has been played by Jennifer Lawrence, who portrayed a younger version of the character.

Yelena in the MCU has never shown any romantic interest in any other character. The former Black Widow had enough on her plate dealing with the Red Room, the death of her sister, the Sentry’s threat, and leading the Thunderbolts in the MCU. Mystique, on the other hand, is in an on-again, off-again relationship with Magneto throughout the X-Men franchise. Should Mystique and Yelena share a romantic moment, it would definitely follow through on Lewis Pullman’s comments about “unexpected” journeys for characters in Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently slated to release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
