The Boys Season 5’s finale featured the Deep’s shocking fate. As marine creatures attacked the disgraced superhero, one of them said, “Justice for Ambrosius.” So, who was Ambrosius, and what did he do to her?
Why was the Deep killed, and who is Ambrosius?
The Deep had a complex arc in The Boys, with the supe constantly struggling with identity, acceptance, and his powers. Over time, he continued losing his dignity to the point of no return. Moreover, by the seventh episode of the final season, the marine creatures had warned Deep that he would be killed the moment he stepped into water, as they blamed him for the oil pipeline mishap that killed billions of fish.
In the finale, Deep fights with Starlight near the ocean, and it ends with Starlight blasting him into the sea. There, he is surrounded by aquatic creatures, who ultimately kill him. However, before killing him, one of the marine creatures says, “Justice for Ambrosius.”
Some may not remember it, but Ambrosius was an octopus who appeared in Seasons 3 and 4 of the show and was Deep’s lover. The character was unexpectedly voiced by the iconic Tilda Swinton.
The Deep found Ambrosius at the 70th annual Herogasm and took her in when Soldier Boy destroyed the home of the TNT Twins.
Ambrosius and Deep continued their physical relationship into Season 4, but the supe tried to keep Ambrosius hidden. When he was having an affair with Sister Sage, Ambrosius tried to tell him that Sage was manipulating him, but this led to Deep losing his cool, and he smashed the aquarium where Ambrosius was.
Deep walked away from the dying octopus, marking a point of no return for the supe.
It all came back in the finale as Deep met his end.
