Hugely Popular The Boys Star Could Play an MCU Villain Next

A hugely popular The Boys star could trade one superhero universe for another sooner than fans might expect. A well-known industry insider recently hinted that Marvel Studios has eyes on the actor for a villainous role in the MCU.

Marvel rumored to be interested in The Boys’ Antony Starr

Insider MyTimeToShineHello claims Marvel Studios has interest in Antony Starr for an MCU villain role. The popular scooper posted on X that they heard there was interest in the actor playing an MCU antagonist. The post came in response to a discussion about Homelander’s fate in The Boys Season 5.

Starr has long expressed admiration for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking at Denver Fan Expo in 2024, the actor named 2012’s The Avengers as his favorite superhero film. “I love the first Avengers. The very first Avengers movie I thought that was excellent,” Starr said at the event.

The New Zealand actor also previously voiced interest in playing Wolverine for Marvel. In a 2020 interview with ScreenGeek, Starr called Wolverine his top X-Men pick despite the “big shoes to fill” left by Hugh Jackman. He praised Jackman’s portrayal and joked that Wolverine not wearing spandex was “definitely a negative.”

Starr has sent mixed signals about joining the MCU in more recent appearances. At Toronto Comic-Con in March 2025, a fan asked the actor about joining Marvel. Starr responded by saying he felt “a little too old for that” and noted Willem Dafoe already excelled as Green Goblin. He also told Rolling Stone in 2024 that he did not know what kind of role he wanted next.

The Boys wraps with its fifth and final season on Prime Video in 2026. Starr has played Homelander since the satirical superhero series premiered in 2019. Eric Kripke created the show, which also spawned the spinoff Gen V and the upcoming prequel Vought Rising. Marvel Studios and Starr’s representatives have not commented on the rumor from MyTimeToShineHello.
