Netflix is bringing Scooby-Doo back in live-action form, and the first look at its core cast is already out. Fresh behind-the-scenes photos show the young actors coming together as the iconic mystery-solving team, offering an early glimpse at how this new version of the beloved franchise is shaping up.
Mckenna Grace, Maxwell Jenkins, Abby Ryder Fortson, and Tanner Hagen unite in photos
Newly surfaced images reveal the main cast posing together ahead of filming. Mckenna Grace plays Daphne, Maxwell Jenkins steps in as Fred, Abby Ryder Fortson takes on Velma, and Tanner Hagen appears as Shaggy. The photos, seemingly taken in a casual photo booth setting, don’t show them in costume but still give a clear sense of the group dynamic.
The upcoming show is designed as a prequel, focusing on how the Mystery Inc. gang first came together. The story follows Shaggy and Daphne during their last summer at camp, where they stumble into a strange case involving a lost Great Dane puppy. The mystery quickly deepens, with hints of a possible supernatural crime pulling them into a much darker situation than expected (via TUDUM).
As the plot unfolds, Velma joins as the logical thinker, while Fred is introduced as a newcomer with his own quirks. Together, they begin investigating events that seem eerie on the surface but could hide something more grounded underneath. The show appears to stick to the franchise’s classic formula while adding a slightly more intense tone.
There are still a few unknowns. It’s not confirmed whether Scooby-Doo will appear as a real dog or through CGI. Meanwhile, Paul Walter Hauser is also part of the cast in a regular but undisclosed role. Behind the camera, Toby Haynes will direct the first episode and serve as an executive producer alongside a larger creative team.
The Scooby-Doo franchise has been running since 1969 and has seen countless versions across film and TV. While Netflix hasn’t shared a release date yet, this early look suggests the next chapter is already taking shape.
