By the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Daredevil and Jessica Jones will be joined by a third Netflix/Marvel hero: Mike Colter‘s Luke Cage.
Colter’s Marvel Cinematic Universe return has become somewhat of an open secret. While Marvel Studios has yet to announce his return as Luke Cage officially, Colter confirmed back in February that he has “been talking to Marvel” about playing his Netflix character again, hinting that “there’s opportunities to come into Daredevil’s world.”
What does Marvel have planned for Luke Cage’s MCU return?
Now, according to MAJESTIC_ucm on X, coming into Daredevil’s world is exactly what Marvel has planned for Luke Cage. The scooper recently boosted a claim he made back on February 7, 2026, restating that Luke Cage will become the new Mayor of New York at the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and will hold onto the position in Season 3.
This implies that Colter will have a limited role in Born Again Season 2, but a much larger one in Season 3. The upcoming Born Again season is being marketed as Daredevil’s Army vs. Mayor Kingpin and his Ant-Vigilante Task Force, with Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones returning to the small screen to be part of the former.
It’s unclear how exactly Luke Cage will find himself in a position to take over as Mayor of New York from Kingpin (a.k.a. Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio), although showrunner Dario Scardapane has already confirmed that Season 2 will conclude the Mayor Kingpin storyline.
Luke Cage’s Netflix series ended with him being established as the new “sheriff” of Harlem. With almost a decade having passed since the Netflix series ended, it’s entirely possible that Luke Cage’s influence has grown beyond Harlem, putting him in a position to become mayor, although this remains purely speculative.
Both seasons of Luke Cage can be streamed on Disney+, while Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premieres on the streamer on March 24, 2026.
