A new report claims that the protagonists of Avengers: Secret Wars will be two Marvel superheroes who have yet to appear together in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
So far, every Avengers sequel has featured protagonists who have previously appeared together in a prior MCU project. The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday is no different, with Thor, Steve Rogers, Shuri/Black Panther, Sam Wilson/Captain America, Bucky Barnes, and the rest of the New Avengers all set to reunite, along with some new faces, in their fight to stop Doctor Doom.
However, according to a new report on X from reliable insider MAJESTIC_ucm, Secret Wars will primarily be led by two characters who have each appeared only once in the MCU so far and will only cross paths in the opening moments of Doomsday.
Who will be the protagonists of Avengers: Secret Wars?
Much has already been reported on Avengers: Doomsday’s leaked opening scene, which will reportedly show Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Doc Ock fighting the Fox X-Men, with the former’s universe being destroyed.
In the past week, scoopers have claimed that both Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will die in Doomsday when the former’s universe is destroyed. However, scooper James Mack debunked their deaths, with fellow scooper @DivinitySeeker1 explaining on X that their supposed deaths are nothing more than “a misdirect. You don’t see any dead bodies on screen. They play a big part in the next movie.”
MAJESTIC_ucm backed up @DivinitySeeker1’s report, revealing that “Wolverine and Spider-Man are left fighting and are saved at the last second (by the Watcher)” before the world is destroyed.
The insider goes on to claim that more on the Watcher saving Wolverine and Spider-Man will be shown in the final scene of Doomsday, which will set up their main roles in Secret Wars. “Only the two of them remember, or at least what they seem to remember, the past. They are the protagonists of [Secret Wars],” the insider stated.
“They will assemble a group of heroes to restore the multiverse and save everyone from the control of the Scarlet Witch and Doom. Shang-Chi, Peggy, and her son, Shuri, will join them, along with a few others—about 10 or 12 in total—who remember everything that happened,” MAJESTIC_ucm added.
MAJESTIC_ucm also revealed that Marvel Studios is “going all in on making them the main protagonists” of Secret Wars, and that previously established heroes like Sam Wilson and Captain Marvel won’t be the leads of the MCU crossover.
Jackman’s Wolverine and Maguire’s Spider-Man not only sharing the screen but leading a Marvel movie together is a dream come true for any fan who was alive in the 2000s when the original X-Men and Spider-Man trilogies were released.
The grand finale of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga begins on December 18, 2026, when Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters, and concludes the following year on December 17, 2027, with Avengers: Secret Wars.
