Marvel has released the first trailer and character posters for Eyes of Wakanda, premiering August 1 on Disney+. One of the posters introduces the MCU’s newest Iron Fist, voiced by Jona Xiao. The show marks the debut of the first female Iron Fist in the MCU’s main Earth-616 timeline.

Jona Xiao confirmed the casting on her Instagram, stating, “So stoked to reveal I’m playing the MCU’s 1st ever female Iron Fist! Catch Marvel’s Eyes of Wakanda.” Her character’s name remains undisclosed, and it is not yet confirmed whether she is an original creation or based on a comic counterpart.

Eyes of Wakanda is a four-episode animated prequel series produced by Proximity Media’s Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Kalia King. The series follows Wakandan warriors throughout history on missions to retrieve stolen Vibranium artifacts. These warriors are the Hatut Zaraze, elite operatives featured prominently in the story.

Todd Harris serves as director and executive producer. He previously worked on Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, and John Wick. Ryan Coogler, Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt also executive produce.

The new Iron Fist will be the fourth character to appear under that title within Marvel Studios productions. The previous three include Danny Rand (Finn Jones), Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), and Kwai Jun-Fan from What If…? Season 3.

Talking about the show, Harris told Entertainment Weekly, “People pull truth out of history, and it might not necessarily be objective truth, but it’s theirs.” He added, “And then we kind of back off a little bit and get a little bit more Marvel with it.”

Eyes of Wakanda premieres August 1 on Disney+.
