Many are looking to see whether The Fantastic Four: First Steps or Superman 2025 has higher user reviews as the battle between Marvel and DC continues to brew at the box office. The Fantastic Four reboot comes two weeks after the Superman reboot, which gives Marvel a better position to dominate theaters moving forward while giving Superman a lot of time to build momentum. Of course, the audience scores for Fantastic Four are still somewhat early since the film only released nationwide today, July 25, but many have seen the movie at early screenings or in official releases in other countries. Still, the results of how viewers feel about both films are fascinating thus far.
Does Superman or The Fantastic Four First Steps have higher user ratings?
At the time of writing, Superman 2025 and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are effectively tied when it comes to user scores. Superman does have a slight edge over Fantastic Four on Metacritic, but its lead is very thin.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the Popcornmeter audience score for both films are currently tied at 92%. based on over 10,000 verified ratings for Superman and over 2,500 verified ratings for Fantastic Four. This stalemate continues on IMDB, where viewers have given an average rating of 7.6 out of 10 to both movies.
The one point of difference is on Metacritic where Superman 2025 has a user rating of 7.5 based on around 1400 ratings while Fantastic Four has a lower 6.7, though that’s only based on 104 ratings so there could be a very wild swing as more viewers see the film over the weekend.
These user scores reflect similar reviews from critics, who have placed both films within the same ballpark. The critics Tomatometer score is higher for The Fantastic Four: First Steps at 89% with 268 reviews when compared to Superman’s at 83% at 453 reviews. But on Metacritic, Superman’s critic reviews stand at an average of 68 based on 58 reviews, which is four points higher than Fantastic Four’s based on 52 reviews.
To be sure, user scores are volatile and can be subject to review bombing (or reverse review bombing), so these audience ratings need to be taken with a grain of salt. But so far, they indicate that fans have generally enjoyed both films at around the same level. At the very least, the performances from both films will provide a much needed boost to superhero films in general and hopefully set the stage for the DCU and MCU moving forward.
