Marvel fans seem to believe that new photos from the set of the untitled Punisher television special reveal a look at a villain from the comic books. Notably, Jon Bernthal made his debut as Frank Castle / The Punisher in Season 2 of Netflix’s Daredevil. The character later appeared in his own show, The Punisher, which streamed for two seasons between 2017 and 2019. Bernthal reprised the role in the first season of the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. The above-mentioned special was conceived when the inaugural chapter of Born Again was in production.
The Punisher fans think set photos revealed Marvel villain Ma Gnucci
New set photos from the production of the Punisher special presentation seem to disclose that Isabella “Ma” Gnucci, a well-known Punisher villain from the comics, is part of the narrative. The photo depicts Castle, clad in his usual hoodie, facing a woman in a wheelchair. This woman has her hand raised toward Castle, and the scene seems to be taking place in New York City.
Garth Ennis (writer) and Steve Dillon (artist) created Ma Gnucci as an antagonist of the Punisher. She made her first comic book appearance in the fourth issue of The Punisher Vol. 5, which came out in 2000. In the comics, she is the head of the largest remaining crime family in New York City. After Castle kills her children, Ma Gnucci decides to seek vengeance.
Details about the Punisher special presentation have been kept under wraps. It’s unclear which actor is portraying Ma Gnucci in the special, if this is indeed her. Reinaldo Marcus Green is directing the special from a teleplay he penned with Bernthal.
The cast reportedly includes Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle and Roe Rancell in a key role. The special is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2026. Bernthal will also appear as Castle in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
