Michael Giacchino is Scoring Thor: Love and Thunder

Marvel Studios is turning to one of its go-to composers to provide the music for Thor: Love and Thunder. Earlier today, Michael Giacchino confirmed that he’s been hired to score Chris Hemsworth’s next outing as the MCU’s God of Thunder. Check out his announcement below.

Giacchino has been part of the Marvel family ever since he scored the original Doctor Strange in 2016. He went on to compose the music for all three films in the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man series, including next week’s No Way Home. But these aren’t the only blockbusters on his resume. Over the years, Giacchino has also lent his talents to the Star Wars, Jurassic World, and Star Trek franchises. He also regularly collaborates with Pixar, having scored animated features like The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Coco, and Up, the latter of which won him an Oscar in 2010.

Interestingly, each of Marvel’s Thor movies has had a different composer. The original 2011 entry featured music by Patrick Doyle, while Brian Tyler took over on Thor: The Dark World. More recently, Mark Mothersbaugh filled this role on Thor: Ragnarok in 2017.

Love and Thunder also reunites Giacchino with director Taika Waititi after they worked together on 2019’s Jojo Rabbit. Additionally, the film marks the second big superhero project that Giacchino has on his 2022 slate. Moviegoers will next get to hear his work in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which opens on March 4.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
