The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Trailer Paints a Horrifying VR World

While the tenth season of The Walking Dead is coming to AMC on Sunday, Skydance Interactive has revealed something new for fans to bite into: a new trailer for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. The virtual reality game casts players as a survivor who will do whatever it takes to make it through an infested New Orleans.

In the trailer, the focus stays with a particular backpack, first given to a child by her mother. But following the outbreak, it’s abandoned, only for it to be passed on from survivor to survivor. Three years later, the girl gets it back.

The game’s storyline is separated from the traditional Walking Dead lore. However, there are certain elements that will overlap not only with those comics, but also The Walking Dead TV series.

Saints & Sinners will reportedly have over 15 hours of gameplay. However, creative director Adam Grantham told Variety that there’s more to the game than zombie killing action. Players will have to craft weapons in an effort to stay alive, along with brandishing traditional firearms. There’s also the opportunity to explore a world where zombies could literally pop out at every turn.

The development team’s goal is to follow the structure of the television series, with a mixture of action and drama. And the quiet moments go a long way, according to Jake Geiger, the game’s art director.

“Obviously, we want people to feel uncomfortable, because it’s The Walking Dead.”

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners will hit stores on  January 23, 2020. Skydance didn’t reveal the specific platforms, but the Oculus Rift S and PlayStation VR are the likely candidates. Check out the trailer below!
