Take a Look at the Elseworlds Batman Game That Never Was

In 1989, Brian Augustyn and “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola offered an “imaginary story” of Batman, set in a European Gotham City one hundred years in the past, pitting the caped crusader against Jack the Ripper. Titled “Gotham by Gaslight,” the popular one-shot ushered in DC Comics’ “Elseworlds” brand, a label designed to showcase the company’s iconic heroes in tales set in alternate realities.

Today, Siliconera has a fascinating look at a videogame pitch inspired by “Gaslight” that, sadly, never made it into development. In the player below, you can check out Day 1 Studios’ (“F.3.A.R.”) demonstration of what their Victorian era Gotham would have looked like.
