DC Announces New Weekly Series The New 52: Futures End

Briefly seen in a DC All Access video, DC comics has now officially announced a second weekly series for the publisher that will take their characters five years in the future. Titled The New 52: Futures End, the weekly series was conceived and written by Jeff Lemire, Keith Giffen, Brian Azzarello and Dan Jurgens.

“Really, what we’re trying to do with this book is to explore the nature of what a hero is and we’re doing that, obviously by playing with the future of the New 52 timeline,” Lemire told The Associated Press

The three cruxes of the story will be Frankenstein, Firestorm and Batman Beyond as the series will focus on the past, present, and future of he DC Universe. Also with this series, DC will officially bring “Batman Beyond” into the continuity of their comics whereas beforehand it was a standalone series.

The series will debut its “Zero issue” on Free Comic Book Day with art by Ethan Van Sciver just weeks before its first issue hits stores. Jurgens will sometimes pull double duty as artist and writer alongside other series artists Jesus Merino and Aaron Lopresti.
