Disney+ Reminds Marvel Fans to Change Parental Settings to Watch Echo

Marvel Studios‘ first TV-MA Disney+ exclusive, Echo, may require some fans to adjust the parental controls in their profile settings before they can stream the Marvel Spotlight series.

Marvel shared a promotion for Echo on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, featuring a reminder about the show’s mature tone. “Set your Disney+ profile to TV-MA to stream,” the post states.

Echo has a unique spot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the first title to debut under the new Marvel Spotlight banner. The label applies to more “grounded” stories within the franchise and accounts for the graphic material that they may contain, in contrast to the long-standing family-friendly image of content produced by the Walt Disney Company.

What place does Echo have in the MCU?

Created by Marion Dayre, Echo centers on the character of Maya Lopez/Echo, portrayed by Alaqua Cox and introduced in the 2021 miniseries Hawkeye. Cox will be joined by Vincent D’Onofrio, who reprises the role of the iconic villain Wilson Fisk that he played through the three seasons of Daredevil on Netflix.

As series star Charlie Cox will also return as Daredevil in Echo, it seems likely that Marvel Spotlight will draw comparisons with the mature tone and frequent scenes of realistic violence in that series, as well as Netflix’s five other interconnected shows based on street-level Marvel heroes. Charlie Cox and D’Onofrio are also preparing to reunite for the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, which is likely to fall under the Marvel Spotlight banner. They will be joined by Jon Bernthal, reprising his Netflix role as Frank Castle/The Punisher.

In addition to Alaqua Cox, D’Onofrio, and Charlie Cox, Echo will star Chaske Spencer, Graham Greene, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Zahn McClarnon, and Cody Lightning. Season 1 will consist of five episodes, which will all drop at once on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2024.
